Government programs are investments. When they under-perform or fail to achieve desired outcomes or reap expected benefits, the problem may be a lack of effective program management. As a program manager, you are keenly interested in developing your knowledge and expertise to manage programs successfully. You face challenges such as detecting, managing, and overcoming issues arising with people (e.g., low engagement, skill-level), process (e.g., poor methods, accountability, or communications (e.g., unclear goals, lack of sponsorship). Develop an understanding of the “3 Ps” – Portfolios, Programs, and Projects - including the purpose of each, how they are interdependent, and how each differs from the others.
Identify and learn how to manage the four phases of the program life cycle – Pre-Program Preparation, Program Initiation, Delivery of Program Benefits, and Program Closure.
